behind samara

¿Have you ever wanted to make a living out of something you’re not good at? Well, that’s me with surfing.

After being landlocked for 25 years, I finally moved to a little surf town in Oaxaca, Mexico. You all know how it goes; lessons, bumps and accidents, being a complete kook, starting to get better, realizing you’re not really getting better, and on and on.

A year later, I got a weird pain in my lower back, which I ignored until I got the news: I needed spine surgery. That meant quite some time out of the water and my newfound surfer spirit was crushed.

I had been working as a freelance designer, so I figured I could combine my lousy talents and turn them into something people could enjoy and take to the beach with them while I couldn’t; thus, Samara was born.
